Kelly, Anderson & Associates, Inc. had its beginning in May 1984 when James F. Kelly began with a single contract, working from his home. Shortly thereafter, he teamed with Joseph Cappello, Sr. to form KelCap, Inc., also known as KCI. Upon Mr. Cappello’s departure from the firm five years later, Bette B. Anderson joined the firm and partnered with Mr. Kelly to form Kelly, Anderson & Associates, Inc.
Mr. Kelly, a career Federal executive, whose last assignment was as the Deputy Associate Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Executive Office of the President during the Reagan Administration, and Ms. Anderson, who had been a Presidential appointee as Under Secretary of the Treasury during the Carter Administration, working together, strengthened the company’s commitment to its clients in their development of continued growth and competitive strategies. Kelly, Anderson’s goal was — and is — to help clients formulate and implement business strategies that identify optimal business opportunities to enhance the client’s expansion and/or diversification objectives in the Federal government marketplace.
For the three-year period of 1995 to 1998, a third partner joined the firm, David A. Pethick, an expert in business development in the nuclear industry, and the firm was retitled Kelly, Anderson, Pethick & Associates, Inc. Mr. Pethick brought to the firm valuable commercial engineering and large scale business development expertise and experience, which provided great benefit to an important sector of the Kelly, Anderson’s client base. Following Mr. Pethick’s departure from the firm and his return to the engineering profession, the name Kelly, Anderson & Associates, Inc. resumed.
Although Ms. Anderson retired from active consulting in 1995, the firm retained her name and she continued to provide a level of counsel and leadership to the firm for a number of years.
In 1998, as an outgrowth of consulting services provided to industry clients, Kelly, Anderson received a GSA contract to provide a broad range of administrative and operational support services directly to Federal agencies and bureaus. Today, our support to over 30 government clients is approximately half of the revenue of the firm.
As an element of succession planning, Mr. Kelly changed the profile of Kelly, Anderson & Associates, Inc. from a sole proprietorship to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) corporation in 2004 and, upon his retirement from active consulting in 2012, he completed the conversion to a 100% ESOP organization, with every employee having some share in the ownership of the firm. During this time in 2012, Tim Vigotsky was appointed as the CEO and Chairman of the Board after serving as the firm’s president since 2009.
In May 2013, the employee-owners launched a rebranding campaign for Kelly, Anderson with the new business name of KAA Federal Solutions. We step into this new chapter of the company paying tribute to the history of Kelly, Anderson, while changing the style to match the dynamics of our organization.
Throughout its history, Kelly, Anderson’s goal has been to provide services to its clients that support agency mission needs. We continue this tradition today, as a 100% employee-owned small business with a distinguished clientele list of industrial and federal clients.
